Have We Been Here Before?

May 27, 2005

Been catching the lunchtime program lately, “Have we been here before?” where celebrities are regressed (hypnotised to reveal details of past lives hidden in their subconcious.) I find the subject of reincarnation fascinating and quite logical as…. how could you possibly learn everything you know in one lifetime?

Anneka Rice discovered she was a crew member on a vessel bound for exploring the Americas and was envigorated when she/he (Richard) climbed the mast high above the ocean. Nowadays, she confesses how she loves being at the seaside and wondered where the impulse to walk along the beach in the rain comes from along with her adventurous spirit.

Jane Macdonald was an Arabian dancer wearing silks in a palace near the Sahara desert who was chosen to be one of the wives of the tsar. She married for wealth and security but was secrectly in love with a lowly musician. Zara led a miserable yet priviledged life until she was drowned by her maid. She now recognises that she needs to follow her heart, instead of her head.

Although, the hypnotist asks for dates, I never understand why they don’t ask for more specifics like their surname or town etc. The questions are usually quite general. Surely with a more indepth interview, the historian has more of a chance to prove whether these individuals actually existed.

Afternote: Was watching “Middle Sex” a CH4 documentary on intergender people who are not necessarily sure whether they are male or female as the genitals are not properly developed or the brain develops as female whereas the physical body is male. An expert commented, “Nature loves variety but society hates it.” And the presence of prejudice and hatred of transexuals to the extent of murder was discussed according to various cultures. This is a natural defect but people still want to seperate the human species into male or female.

I find this interesting in relation to the discussion of past lives as you can be either male or female in a past life, does this mean we are both hetrosexual and homosexual throughout our existence? And on a subconscious level can we respect that people are both male & female, in effect sexless? Thinking we could have been everything and anything from prostitutes to murderers etc in a former lifetime may encourage feelings of tolerance and humility. That we, as human beings are all learning and evolving universally, no matter where we are situated in this lifetime .

  1. “I’ve watched a few of these programmes. Sometimes very specific details are given, but they never seem to check out. Mind you, I’m not terribly impressed with their historian. Also, the psychologists they have on as “experts” are well-known sceptics who wouldn’t accept any evidence, however strong it was.

My view is that past life therapy works – and that it’s not important whether the past lives that we find together are “real” or not. And even if you don’t need “therapy”, PLT can help you in other ways, such as discovering your life purpose or exploring present relationships. Having said that, there is some very strong evidence for reincarnation, particularly the work of Ian Stevenson.”

  2. “Statistically speaking, it’s odd how few people seem to have previously died in childhood or childbirth, or to have been something unspeakably drab, like a C14th peasant…

Incidentally, what’s the ‘explanation’ for why people recall ‘lives’ many generations back, skipping over all the intervening ones? Or are you allowed periods of non-incarnation?”
