The Twilight Zone

December 19, 2005

Been watching various old episodes of ‘The Twilight Zone’ lately. There was one story about a secret library that was filled with books about individual people’s lives. Everything you have every said or done would be recorded in your book. I like that idea, that somewhere, someone ie: God knows everything you have tried to accomplish in your lifetime, even if nobody else notices.

The episode that sticks out most in my mind though, is from the 60s, in black & white!! It’s about a funny little chap who wears glasses and works as a bank teller. Everyday he is harassed by customers and never has enough time to dedicate to his passion of reading, literature. One particularly tiresome day, he escapes down to the vault for his lunchbreak and some peace and quiet. When he returns upstairs, he realises that a nuclear bomb has exploded destroying everything around him and that he is the only living survivor.

He wanders around aimlessly for a few hours, wondering what he will do with his life now. Then he comes across the ruins of the town library and amongst the rubble, piles and piles of books. As he excitedly scans the titles and authors, he thinks, ‘I now have all the time in the world to catch up on my reading.’ But just as he is about to start, his glasses fall off and break….poor fella.

  1. Ancient cultures and modern spiritualists have described just such a “library” called the “Akashic Record” where all the actions, thoughts and deeds of all persons have and are being recorded. Sort of an all encompassing TIVO if you will. It serves as the basis for learning and recollection. It can be accessed in the dream state if one asks strongly enough. Following the physical “passing”, it also serves as the opportunity for the individual to take stock of the life they had lived/created and come to terms with ALL the good and evil that they had sewn. This is what is commonly thought of as The Judgment although it is not God doing the judging but rather you getting to evaluate yourself nakedly and without deception or denial. During the Akashic Review, one actually experiences in full intensity the thoughts and feelings they have wrought BUT it is the thoughts and feelings from the perspective of the other(s) who have been touched by our actions.
